Slow is Beautiful
Our move in June provided us with more than a new space; it lead us to our new landlord, Jeff Clements. Jeff is co-founder of Whaleback Partners, a small investment company that provides cost-effective capital to farms and small businesses working to renew local economies through sustainable agriculture and food. Inspired by the slow money movement, Whaleback Partners' first investment helped launch Maine’s Own Organic Milk Company. We also discovered we know his partner, Nancy Heselton, through our work with Gaining Ground, where she serves on the board along with Studio-e designer Jessica Huddy. (Small world.)
Shortly after we moved in, Jeff stopped by to ask if we could make a sign for his office door. We created a simple and clean typographic wordmark and that was the beginning of our sustainable relationship.
Jeff Clements is also the author of Corporations Are Not People and co-founder of Free Speech for People, a campaign to overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling. Renting office space from someone like Jeff makes writing the monthly rent check a lot less painful.
